Seen as a prototype in Geneva, the vintage-style Japanese city car revealed its final lines Honda e in Frankfurt with its 220 km range.
The manufacturer revealed all the characteristics of its first modern 100% electric car for the European market. The Honda e had been prefigured as a pre-production at the Geneva Motor Show and are available in European market from 2020 summer.
Two engines
No difference between the Geneva “prototype” and the production version. The Honda e will therefore be modern, but with retro accents, drawing on the Civic of the 1970s. Two small round headlights surround the logo, surmounted by the charging hatch on the hood, the surfaces being flat. But the 5-door silhouette is nice, with a good face devoid of mirrors.
These are standard digital, displaying the rear view on two 6-inch screens. Screens, there are others, three additional on the dashboard, including one for the driver, two other 12.3-inch central for infotainment. The activation of certain functions is possible via the “OK Honda” voice command, others via the smartphone application to check the battery charge, for example. The trunk has a capacity of 171 liters.
On the rear axle, two versions of the electroblock are available. The less powerful develops 100 kW (136 hp), the second 113 kW (154 hp), with a single torque of 315 Nm. Particularly, it is the rear wheels that are driving. The 0-100 km/h is communicated in less than 8 seconds despite the 1,524 kg, the maximum speed being 145 km/h.
The Honda has 220 km of autonomy
Honda had already confirmed that its small city car has a small 35.5 kWh battery. This capacity is modest compared to rivals, with 50 kWh for the e-208 or ZOE, and up to 77 kWh for the Volkswagen ID.3.
This lithium-ion pack provides 220 km of autonomy on the WLTP cycle. Recharging will however be fast, up to 100 kW in order to recover 80% in 30 minutes via the Combo CCS socket.
Availability from summer 2020
If you check the prices, you will find that Honda e has a starting price of 34 910 EUR in In Lithuania, without Governmental bonus. The price for the 113 kW version is 37 330 EUR.
The latter called “Advance” will also accommodate additional equipment such as heated steering wheels/seats. The first deliveries have taken place in summer 2020.
