As part of Audi’s electrification strategy, the company has rolled out (or plans to roll out) several models with full or partial electric drive systems. One such model is the Audi Q4 e-tron that can travel up to 280 miles (450 km) on a single charge and hit 60 mph (96 kph) from a standstill in 6.3 seconds. It’ll also be slightly smaller than the already-unveiled standard e-tron.
The Audi Q4 e-tron, the company’s third fully electric model, has been spotted in camouflage ahead of its upcoming launch. It’s smaller than the Audi e-tron and e-tron Sportback pair.
Overview
Audi is preparing a compact crossover, the Q4 e-tron, which will become the hub for luxury electric vehicles after its launch in early 2021. In addition to the expanding line of all-electric e-tron models, the Q4 will also be used with e-tron SUVs and future e-tron models. The Throne GT sedan was launched on time. It will be the first Audi to use Volkswagen’s MEB modular electric vehicle platform. When the Q4 e-Tron goes on sale in 2021, it will compete with other small luxury electric SUVs like the Tesla Model Y and Volvo XC40 Recharge. It will provide an 82.0 kWh battery with a range of up to 280 miles (450 km). Unlike the larger e-tron SUV, this smaller model can only seat four people. The Fastback Q4 e-tron Sportback, which was announced on the concept car in July 2020, is also expected to launch.
Motor System
Each axle is powered by a Q4 e-tron all-wheel drive motor, and power reaches 300 horsepower. As a result, the required acceleration time to 60 is 6.3 seconds. It’s not as fast as the petrol-powered Audi Q5 SUV, but still agile compared to other compact luxury crossovers. The adaptive suspension is supposed to provide a smooth ride, but since the Q4 e-tron is still a concept car, we can’t drive it to gauge its handling.
- Battery size 82kWh
- Electric motors 225kW total (front and rear)
- Range ‘Over 280 miles’ (450km)
- 0-62mph 6.3sec
- Top speed 112mph (180kph)
Charging and battery
The Q4 will be based on the ubiquitous MEB EV platform, which packages the lithium-ion batteries along the spine of the car within the wheelbase. The 82kWh cells are remarkably capacious for a vehicle this size, resulting in decent electric range to quash any will-we-get-there anxieties.
The Q4 e-tron’s 82.0 kWh battery can provide 280 miles (450 km) of range. This is a preliminary EPA test, so this number is expected to change following cross-selling. The car can support up to 125 kW of charging, according to Audi, the charging capacity can reach 80% in about 30 minutes.
The EPA hasn’t released any fuel efficiency ratings for the Q4 e-tron.
Interior
The interior is a technical demonstration of all the latest Audi products. A digital display is standard, and a large infotainment touchscreen is angled towards the driver for easy access to various menus and functions. The Q4 e-tron concept car is a strictly four-seater, with bucket seats in the front and rear seats and metal accents under the headrest with the e-tron logo, covered in suede. The interior space should be the same as the Q5 with a gasoline engine and there should be enough room for four adults and their loads.
