The Aston Martin Rapide E is a 600bhp all-electric supercar. Rapide E is a limited edition, 155mph four-door and Aston’s first EV.
Overview
Recognisably an Aston, then, but without the most recognisable thing of all – a socking great naturally aspirated, 6.0-litre V12. In its place sits a bespoke battery pack encased in carbon fibre and Kevlar, using more than 5,600 lithium-ion cells.
Motor System
As you may recall, the production-ready Rapide E was engineered to accommodate dual rear electric motors offering a combined 601 horsepower and 950 Newton-meters (701 pound-feet) of instant torque. The electric punch granted a 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) in less than four seconds and a 50 – 70 mph (80 – 113 km/h) in just 1.5 seconds, en route to a top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h). Its 65-kWh battery pack had enough juice for more than 200 miles (322 kilometers) based on the WLTP cycle.
Charging
If you’re charging up the Rapide E, the 800-volt system can onboard 185 miles (297 km) of range every hour if you charge on a 50kW fast-charger, according to Aston Martin. Find a rapid charger with 100kW or more, and you’ll charge at 310 miles (499 km) of range every hour. It’s not quite up to the latest Tesla Supercharging of 1000 miles (1609 km) every 60 minutes, but it’s still acceptably fast.
The onboard AC charger can top up the battery at a domestic connection at home in as little as three hours.
Exterior
Rapide E’s exterior and underbody has been aerodynamically optimised and complemented with newly-designed aluminium wheels, created to achieve higher levels of efficiency, frictional loss and cooling performance.
Price
Though the price is only available upon application to buy, according to the website, it’s expected to cost around $330,000, according to CNN.
