The BMW i4 is an upcoming electric executive car which promises up to 373 miles (600 km.) between charges.
Overview
BMW is no stranger to electrified models (see the fun little i3 and the wildly styled i8 for proof), and the 2021 i4 sedan hopes to further solidify the brand’s EV portfolio. Based on the most famous Bimmer model, the 3 Series, the upcoming i4 is a low-slung four-door vehicle that is expected to compete with rivals such as the Tesla Model 3 and the Audi e-tron GT. While the full details have yet to be released, we know the BMW EV will have a 530bhp electric motor. and an 80.0 kWh battery. BMW says the i4 will have a 372-mile (600 km.) range and a full suite of high-tech equipment when it goes on sale sometime in 2021.
Charging and battery
BMW says the i4 will be capable of more than 373 miles (600 km.) of range.
The eDrive system is also designed to be available in a range of different power outputs and it’s possible that the company could sell the i4 with a variety of battery capacities and, therefore, ranges. However, that will depend on customer demand. The i4’s performance also looks set to take the fight to its rivals: 0-62mph will take less than four seconds, with a top speed of around 124mph.
The EPA has not yet released calculations of i4 fuel consumption or driving distance, so all we can say is 372 miles (600 km) on a single charge. When the i4 can be tested, we will be able to confirm or deny whether this electric car is as promised by BMW.
Motor System
The BMW i4 Concept is powered by a single electric motor that BMW claims will produce 530hp – as much as some of its petrol V8 engines. This means the i4 Concept can sprint from 0-60mph in less than 4 seconds and reach a top speed in excess of 124mph. The i4 Concept’s 80kWh batteries can store enough juice for you to drive 373 miles (600 km) between charges. That’s significantly more than the 322 miles (600 km) a Tesla Model 3 Long Range can deliver and just a few miles shy of what the Tesla Model S can manage. BMW claims you can recharge the i4 Concept’s batteries from empty to 80% full in just 35 minutes using a 150kW charger.
Interior
The i4 Concept’s interior looks rich and intricate with its white leather upholstery, light wood trim, and rose gold embellishment. We don’t expect it to be quite so ornate for production, with something similar to the current BMW Series interior more likely. If the i4 Concept’s cabin is anything to go by. And because of the expectations set on premium level electric vehicles. We expect the i4 to be full of tech to be accessed by a large touchscreen infotainment system. We may not see the i4 Concept’s curved display and the next generation of BMW’s operating system, though. BMW will want to make sure it’s first mass-market electric sedan is as close to bulletproof as possible. So debuting it with a brand new system is unlikely.
Exterior
The 2021 i4 provides eye-catching style with a fastback roofline, short overhangs, and a long wheelbase. The elegant exterior counterpoints the dynamic flair of the performance. This Gran Coupe perfectly blends a futuristic appearance with confidence for an authentic appearance,
however, I would venture to say that some of the trim details are reminiscent of the JAC iEV7s. With its four-door design, you can expect not only everyday practicality but larger interior proportions than you might have guessed.
Price
The BMW i4 isn’t expected to start production until sometime in 2021, and subsequently go on sale later that year. While the German automaker hasn’t announced official pricing, expect it to start somewhere near $50,000.
Competition
Although, BMW is a brand that has long been known to everyone, but it’s a car that has its price. But we have a great offer for you – JAC iEV7S which is as good and reliable as BMW, but with greater price-quality ratio.
