The Environmental Project Management Agency (APVA) has published an article on the Lithuanian government’s decision to compensate 5,000 euros for people who decide to change their fuel-powered electric car to a “go green“.
Compensation belongs to the person who has duly submitted a request for compensation.
Compensation will be paid to one applicant for the purchase of a used electric car – 2,000 euros, for the purchase of a new electric car – 4,000 euros. An additional compensation of € 1,000 will be given to the applicant who will return the old used fuel-powered car. The total compensation benefit per person can be as high as € 5,000.
Requirements for a new electric car
A new electric vehicles must meet the following requirements in order for the buyer to receive compensation:
- After purchasing an electric vehicles, the applicant registers it in his own name, and after purchasing it by leasing, he becomes the manager of the electric car.
- The electric car must be registered for the first time in Lithuania.
- The vehicle must be of class M1.
- A vehicle that is powered for mechanical movement only from an electrical energy / power storage device.
- The date of the first registration of the new electric vehicle or the year of the model. Or the first registration date in Lithuania and the registration of the vehicle in the name of the applicant, the driver of the vehicle. Is not earlier than the entry into force of the law, i.e. March 13, 2020
- Used electric car, the first date of registration or model year of which is not earlier than 5 years before the date of entry into force of the annual estimate, and the date of first registration in Lithuania and the date of registration of the vehicle in the name of its driver are the same (coincides) , ie 2020 March 13
If the vehicle meets the requirements. The buyer can receive compensation from € 2,000 to € 4,000 when buying a new electric vehicles.
Requirements for an old gasoline car
To receive an additional 1000 EUR compensation for giving an old car to utilisation. The old car must meet the requirements bellow:
- A vehicle of class M1, maintained by the applicant as the owner for at least 12 months until the date of submission of the application and registered in the Register of Road Vehicles of the Republic of Lithuania.
- The technical inspection of the vehicle was valid until 2019. October 17 or by 2020. March 13
- The vehicle was destroyed in accordance with the rules for handling end-of-life vehicles, approved by the Minister of Environment of the Republic of Lithuania in 2003. December 24 by order no. 710 “On Approval of the Rules for Disposal of End-of-Life Vehicles” and a Certificate of Destruction of End-of-Life Vehicles (Lt. ENTP) has been obtained.
- The vehicle was deregistered from the Register of Road Vehicles of the Republic of Lithuania with an ENTP destruction certificate.
- Please note that when deregistering a vehicle from the Road Vehicle Register of the Republic of Lithuania online, it is necessary to present a certificate of destruction of the ENTP. If you check out without an ENTP, you will not be able to claim an additional € 1,000 compensation.
Additional benefits
The Lithuanian government is thinking about the additional benefits for those who are ready to use an electric vehicles.
There are already more than a few hundred electric car charging stations in Lithuania, charging is free and all of them provide fast charging options.
In Lithuania, electric vehicles owners can park their vehicles for free in paid parking spaces in cities belonging to the city. This solution saves a lot of money for people who want to park their cars in the center of Vilnius or Kaunas.
By driving an electric vehicle you will no longer hear the soaring roar of an engine. Electric cars are silent and reliable – more comfortable than the gasoline powered ones.
